Financial Assistance

There are many financial resources available to assist both undergraduate and graduate students in fulfilling their educational goals. Below are links to information in this area.

Nursing Scholarships

College of Nursing Scholarships
Scholarships available to students enrolled in the college are awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement. You may be required to file the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid first.

Southwestern Ohio Nurses Association (SONA)
Anna M. Drake Student Memorial Fund
A registered nurse student interested in completing the RN/BSN track offered by the College may request a loan from this fund. A SONA member must sponsor the student. Specific information may be obtained by writing SONA, 2231 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, OH 45206

Student Financial Aid Office
The Student Financial Aid Office is committed to making education as affordable as possible. Every effort will be made to identify university, federal and state resources to assist both undergraduate and graduate students.

Cincinnatus Scholarship Competition
Freshmen with exemplary high school academic records may be eligible to compete in this competition. Information is available from the Office of Admissions.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
This form is required for many of the financial aid programs.

Work-Study
This is a federal program that pays undergraduate and graduate students to work in educational settings.

Graduate Assistantships
These stipends usually requiring teaching or research responsibilities.

University Graduate Scholarships
These scholarships pay tuition and some fees.

Nursing Loans Program
The loan is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is available to students enrolled in the field of nursing. The interest rate is 5% and repayment begins one year after leaving or graduating from the College of Nursing. The loan is need based and the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid must also be submitted. Details are available through the UC Office of Student Financial Aid.

Nurse Reinvestment Act of 2002 (http://www.bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/reinvestmentact.htm)
In response to the national nursing shortage, the Nurse Reinvestment Act of 2002 was signed into law in August 2002. The amendment authorizes new programs to increase the number of qualified nurses and the quality of nursing services in the US. Programs provide grants, scholarships and other aid to nurses and nursing students
