Accelerated Program (MSN) Plan

This program is meant for people who hold a degree in area outside of Nursing and are interested in becoming a registered nurse, then quickly moving through one of our master’s programs. There are three phases to the program:

Phase 1 is the RN prelicensure phase and requires 32 to 36 credit hours of course work (Accelerated Pathway Transcript Assessment for 2009) These courses must be completed before being placed on the Phase II Ready List. The courses can be completed by transferring credits from your existing degree, by testing out of course/s or by taking course work. You can be admitted prior to completing Phase I courses and successful applicants are jointly admitted into all three phases of the program. Students who complete Phase I will be placed on the Phase II Ready List sequentially and selected to start Phase II in groups of 32 every June and January.

Phase II - The Accelerated Phase II program has two start ups each academic year, one in mid June and one at the beginning of January. Please note that we are now accepting inquiries and applications for Phase II January 2009 and June 2009. Phase II comes in one format only: 4 full-time consecutive quarters and a part-time fifth quarter with a 3 credit hour practicum are required. You are awarded your BSN degree at the end of this phase and are able to continue into the master’s portion or Phase III.

Phase III - Continuation of master's core courses. Certain master's majors require a period of experience prior to entering specialty courses. However, students may enroll in Core, Core A, and Core B classes while gaining any required experience. Therefore, the length of the Accelerated Pathway Program varies dependent upon the selected major. The program may be completed in a minimum of nine quarters of full-time study beginning with Phase II. At the end of this phase, a student fulfilling all requirements is awarded a Master of Science in Nursing.
