Recommended Completion Guidelines
Because programs are filled on a first come basis, early applicants have a better chance of being admitted into their chosen field. Please refer to the dates below:

  1. February 1 - To get the best consideration for scholarships and available opportunities in your chosen major, we recommend that you submit your application by early to mid-January, no later than February 1. Financial assistance is typically limited and is awarded competitively.
  2. Nurse Anesthesia Applications - Nurse Anesthesia applications should be received by October 1, in order to be considered for admission for the following academic year. International applications will be accepted up to one year in advance for this program.

PLEASE NOTE: We recommend that you assemble all application materials and mail in a single certified mailer to Loren Carter, Graduate Program Coordinator, College of Nursing, University of Cincinnati, PO Box 210038, Cincinnati, OH 45221-0038.

Submit These Materials

  1. University of Cincinnati Application for Graduate Admission - including $40.00 fee. The application must be submitted electronically at www.grad.uc.edu, under 'Graduate Application'.
  2. Graduate Record Exam Score (GRE) - This examination provides important information concerning aptitude for graduate study. Substantial review is recommended for proper preparation. Please note that GRE scores must be less than (5) years old at the time of application and must be forwarded to the College by the Educational Testing Service. For more information, please visit www.gre.org. For information about the test prep class, call (513) 556-7173. Test prep books for the GRE can be purchased at most bookstores.
  3. Copy of RN License - If admitted, it will be necessary to obtain an Ohio RN License. For more information about obtaining an Ohio RN License, visit www.state.oh.us/nur, and click 'Endorsement'. (PhD students who will not be involved in clinical settings are not required to furnish an Ohio RN License.) Accelerated students will earn RN licensing in Phase II of their program.
  4. Three References (see Recommendation Form) - References should come from individuals who can attest to you academic and professional skills. Be certain to inform persons who provide recommendations of the deadline for receipt of credentials.
  5. Official transcripts - Transcripts must be received from your college in a sealed envelope. Your transcript(s) can be mailed to you and forwarded to the College of Nursing. Do not open the envelope. If your degree is from the University of Cincinnati, the College of Nursing must still receive an official transcript in a sealed envelope.
    The transcript should verify:
    • A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale for the last degree earned. (A comparable level of achievement is expected for other grading systems.)
    • Evidence of completion of a minimum of one undergraduate graduate course in statistics with a grade of "C" or higher within the past five years, or indication of current enrollment in such a course or of planned enrollment.
