Dr. Laura Rosnagle Scholarship Awards 2007
Maura Collins
Maura hit the ground running at the College of Nursing. She was a member
of Nursing Tribunal her freshman year and was on the ballot to serve
as VP of this organization her sophomore year. As a member of the
Tribunal, she was involved in the annual blood drive and the spring
formal. She has served as one of the Dean’s student ambassadors
every year, representing the College at open houses and dinner events.
Within the larger University, Maura has been involved with Collegiate
Christian Ministries since her freshman year, and is currently on
the leadership team since her sophomore year. She is a leader in
youth ministry in her Church. In addition to all her activities she
has been able to maintain a University GPA >3.5!
Margaret Cunningham
Margaret, “Maggie” to her friends, has been one of the
Dean’s student ambassadors for the past 3 years. In this role
she has volunteered her time a numerous college events, serving as
a representative of the College and a role model for future students
at recruitment events. For the past 2 years, Maggie has served as treasurer
of Nursing Tribunal, the student government organization. In this role
she has organized fund raisers for such organizations as the Hurricane
Katrina Relief Fund. She raised money and participated in the Breast
Cancer Walk, and works with a coordinator of the Meals on Wheels program
to try and involve nursing tribunal members in this service. She represented
the College in the annual Crosstown Help-out with Xavier University,
helping with clean-up and preparations. In the larger community, Maggie
has been a volunteer visitor at Willow Knoll, a local retirement community
for the past several years. She also meets the Scholarship Award criteria
with a GPA >3.5!
Megan Diddle
Megan has been active in the College of Nursing since she began her
career at UC. She has been one of the Dean’s Student Ambassadors
since her freshman year, and is currently president of Nursing Tribunal,
the nursing student government association. In this role, she helped
organize a group to represent the CON in last Fall’s breast
cancer walk. She put together a team to paint a seaway house for
female victims of spousal abuse and their children during the UC/XU
Crosstown Help-out. She led the Hoxworth blood drive at the College
this past winter, and will be traveling to Ronal McDonald House this
spring with the Tribunal to meet with parents and their families.
She organized a Dean’s forum this winter, allowing students
to voice any suggestions or concerns about classes to the Dean. In
the larger University, she is an RA in Dabney Hall this year and
she works part-time as a PCA in the SICU at University Hospital.
It is remarkable that she maintains a GPA >3.5!
Alicia Osland
An outstanding student who returned to College in her 20’s to
pursuer nursing, Alicia strives for academic excellence and has been
on the Dean’s list every quarter. Wanting to share her passion
for nursing and for academic excellence, she mentors and tutors other
classmates. With a background in music therapy, she volunteers her
time and talent as the Music Director at her church, Kenwood Fellowship,
planning and directing all the music in this position. After completing
a Family Planning and Childbearing class, Alicia was inspired to volunteer
her time at the Lincoln Heights Health Center doing intake and teaching
newly pregnant women about their health and pregnancy. Her faculty
recommendations speak to her leadership skills among her peers and
her passion for incorporating education into her patient care. All
this with an outstanding GPA >3.5!
Shannon O’Shaughnessy
Shannon states that she always wanted to be a nurse! With this as her
goal, she came to the College of Nursing as a Cincinnatus Scholar
and a recipient of the Humana Nursing Scholarship. An outstanding
student, Shannon worked for the College of Nursing’s former Associate
Dean for Research, Dr. Marilyn Sommers on the ‘Health Promotion
Study’. She worked full-time in the summer and part-time during
the academic year. Between her Freshman and Sophomore years, she
participated in the WISE program, Women in Science and Engineering,
which further helped build her leadership skills, as she had to develop
and present findings of the Health Promotion Study. She was invited
to attend the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS) and present
a poster in Milwaukee, WI. She will be part of the new cohort of
students in the Co-op nursing program this year. She has been a Student
ambassador for the past 3 years and returns yearly to her high school
to speak to senior students about nursing as a career. Additionally
Shannon is a volunteer at the Women’s Connection in Price Hill.
All this and a GPA >3.5!
