Human
Genome Project Information
This site allows for the exploration into the development and progress of the
worldwide Human Genome Project. This project was designed to "identify
all the estimated 80,000 genes in human DNA, determine the sequences of the
3 billion chemical bases that make up human DNA, store this information in
databases, and develop tools for data analysis".

Center allowing for further information.
National
Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI)
The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) was established to head
the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) role in the Human Genome Project. "NHGRI's
Division of Extramural Research funds Human Genome Project research in chromosome
mapping, DNA sequencing, database development, technology development for genome
research, and studies of the ethical, legal, and social implications of genetics
research in laboratories throughout the country." Other information provided
in this site includes ethical, legal and social implications, workshops and
conferences, and a glossary of genetic terms.
Progeny
Progeny is a "unique pedigree drawing program for genetic testing/research
w/built-in transparent relational database providing tremendous flexibility
in managing/manipulating data while drawing pedigrees lightning-fast".
This program provides the user with the ability to edit dimensions, individuals,
lines, and relationships on the pedigree. In addition, a customer service link
is provided allowing for comments and discussion of Progeny-related topics.
GeneClinics:
Fragile X Syndrome
"The GeneClinics knowledge base, an "electronic textbook," is
an authoritative, frequently updated resource to help health care professionals
relate genetic testing to the diagnosis, management, and counseling of patients
and families with inherited disorders."
Links
to the Genetic World
Links to the Genetic World is part of the Human Genome Project Information
Site. The Links to the Genetic World page provides information about the Human
Genome Project including what's new in the project and frequently asked questions.
Specific links can be made to journals, meetings, ethical, legal, and social
issues, gene therapy, images, as well as a variety of general links. In addition,
information relating to research and research sites is provided.
GeneNet -
The Worldwide Resource for Genetics
"GeneNet will provide consolidated, timely, and easily
accessible information, products, and services for the genetics community.
This network will help professionals in the genetics community to search
for and analyze information, communicate and collaborate with colleagues,
disseminate findings, prepare curriculum for instruction, subscribe
to journals, purchase books, software and equipment, and provide educational
guides and advice."
More
Chromatin Links
This site provides a variety of links to nucleosome/chromatin related pages.
In addition, it is possible to access the nucleosome homepage and the 2nd edition
of "Chromatin: structure and function" from this site.
Primer
on Molecular Genetics (Department of Energy)
The Primer on Molecular Genetics provides in depth information regarding the
human genome, DNA, genes, and chromosomes. In addition, this site discusses
the mapping and sequencing of the human genome, sequencing technologies, model
organism research, data collection and interpretation, and the impact of the
human genome project.
DNA
Laboratory Resource List
The DNA Laboratory Resource List is made available through the Medical and
Scientific Information Online web page. The resource list provides information
about various laboratories where DNA testing is available, commercial laboratories
that provide DNA diagnostic testing for a large variety of common genetic disorders,
and laboratories that conduct DNA testing based upon a specific genetic disorder.
WEBGET
- Gene Therapy
"The Penn/Rhone Rorer Foundation Genetics and Ethics Resource Project provides
the first comprehensive electronic resource on ethics, policy, and law in the
area of genetic research, testing, and therapy." This site enables the user
to search gene therapy regulations, laws, and policy statements in various continents
or countries. In addition, WEBGET provides a search option to help users find
information regarding a specific topic.
The National
Center for Biotechnology Information
"NCBI's mission is to develop new information technologies to aid in the
understanding of fundamental molecular and genetic processes that control health
and disease. Its mandate includes four major tasks: Create automated systems
for storing and analyzing knowledge about molecular biology, biochemistry, and
genetics; Perform research into advanced methods of computer-based information
processing for analyzing the structure and function of biologically important
molecules; Facilitate the use of databases and software by biotechnology researchers
and medical personnel; and Coordinate efforts to gather biotechnology information
worldwide."
The
Visible Human Project
The Visible Human Project was derived from the National Library of Medicine. "The
initial aim of the Visible Human Project is to create a digital image data
set of a complete human male and female cadaver in MRI, CT and anatomical modes".
This web site contains images and animations from the project, the Visible
Human fact sheet, information regarding various projects based upon Visible
Human data, sources of images and animations created using the Visible Human
Data set, products based on the Visible Human Data set, tools for use with
the Visible Human Data Set, and media productions about the Visible Human Project.
VL
- Developmental Biology Subject Index
The Virtual Library maintained by the Society for Developmental Biology provides
a variety of scientific and informational links pertaining to the following
subject areas: Gametogenesis and Fertilization; Early Development; Organogenesis
and Morphogenesis; Pattern Formation; Gene Regulation and Genetics; Cell Lineage
and Fate Maps; Evolution and Development; and Diseases, Defects and Development.
In addition, this web site provides a diverse listing of societies and organizations,
research and educational resources, and search engines.
