Frequently Asked questions

How do I change my College of Nursing login password?

The easiest way is to press CTRL-ALT-DELETE keys at the same time – this will bring up the Windows Security screen – one of the buttons is ‘Change Password’ - you will be prompted to enter your old password and your new password twice. The new password will take effect the next time you restart your computer.

How can I reduce the amount of spam e-mail I am receiving?

Believe it or not 95% of spam entering the university is being blocked by one of the university's filtering schemes. That said, the 5% that still gets through can be very annoying. There are some basic steps you can take to create rules in our Outlook client to reduce the amount of spam you see <How To> For a better understanding of spam please see the UCit Keeping Spam Out of Your E-Mail webpage.

SPAM Management Announcement from UCit
University e-mail volume has increased from 1,600,000 messages per month in January, to 3,200,000 per month in August. Most of this e-mail is spam. UCit’s current practices block much of it, but more spam is getting through our filtering system. In light of this continuing increase in spam, UCit is taking stronger actions to block suspected spam that is still arriving in UC mailboxes. Whenever we increase our spam filtering efforts, there is a possibility we may be blocking some legitimate e-mail in the process. If you experience problems with this, please call the UCit Help desk (556-HELP) and the e-mail team will add the appropriate e-mail addresses to our valid senders lists, allowing delivery from these senders. We appreciate your support and patience as we fine tune our spam strategy. We apologize for any inconveniences.

Can I setup my Outlook e-mail client at home to look like my office?

Yes. You first need to setup and connect to the Virtual Private Network (VPN). Then just follow this How-To.

I am receiving e-mail messages that my mailbox is full - what can I do?

Any messages or folders stored under the Microssoft Outlook folder structure 'Mailbox' counts against your quota. You need to create a seperate set of folders to store messages that you want to keep outside of the 'Mailbox' folder structure. See this How To for instructions.

Exchange Quota Extended
UCit will be doubling the standard online e-mail storage quota for Exchange users to 200 MB, effective 10/01/2007. UCit also offers a service to provide even more inbox storage space for a fee.

For more information on this extended storage option, please see: http://www.uc.edu/ucit/e-mail/storage_options.html#Extended%20storage For tips on managing your e-mail please see: http://www.uc.edu/ucit/email/archiving.html
