Research Faculty Christine Savage, PhD, RN, CARN Associate Professor College of Nursing University of Cincinnati EDUCATION 1971, BSN, Boston College BACKGROUND Dr. Savage is known for her expertise in community health nursing and addictions nursing. She has over 35 years of experience in nursing including infection control, maternal child health and addictions. Dr. Savage has developed, implemented and evaluated population-based programs for vulnerable populations including mothers with substance use disorders and the homeless. She served as president of the International Nurses Society on Addictions for 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. TEACHING Professor Savage is known for her expertise in community health nursing and has served as director of the community health masters program since 1997. She has taught courses in epidemiology, nursing science, community health and nursing administration. She is recognized nationally for her expertise in addictions nursing curricula, as an editor of the Core Curriculum on Addictions Nursing and the editor of the National Institute on Alcohol and Abuse BSN curriculum. SERVICE Dr Savage is the immediate past president of the International Nurses Society on Addictions. She is an associate editor of the Journal of Addictions Nursing. HONORS & AWARDS
PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
RESEARCH The main focus of Dr. Savage’s research has been addiction and care of vulnerable populations. Over the past 10 years Dr. Savage has conducted research that has led to publications related to screening for alcohol use and a broadening of the scope of the research to examine health disparities in the homeless. In 1998 she was awarded an NIAAA research mentorship and worked with Dr. Nancy Day from the University of Pittsburgh. her most recent funded research included an ethnographic study related to health disparities in prenatal infant care and an intervention program with the homeless. |
